In this project we explored how to write poetry, rhyme scheme, meter and other poetic devices. In order to actually write our poetry we went back through everything we learned this year and picked a topic that we were passionate about.
Happiness is something we all seek out in our lives, but we often don’t understand what it takes or even what it means to be happy. The Happiness and Meaning Project explores the concepts behind happiness and how to achieve it. In this project, we dived into the differences between true and artificial happiness through Brave New World, in which we looked at a society that put's such emphasis on happiness that you are thought of as an outcast if you aren't. Learning about how to achieve happiness makes it possible for us to mind satisfaction with our lives. From our previous knowledge of society through the Socialization and Identity Project and this new knowledge of happiness, we can assess why are society is so unhappy and how we can work towards the improvement of this dream our nation strives to achieve. We concluded this project by doing an art project and essay in which we examined what makes us happy personally and how we can achieve happiness as a society.
The Model United Nations project is a 2 month-long project in which we must research, debate and write about the North Korea Nuclear Crisis and the Israel- Palestine conflict. Every student in the class had to represent a country and present their arguments from their countries point of view. In order to present our countries perspective we had to do research on our countries involvement with the issue. After completing research on the topic we then had to write a policy paper that presented our countries view on the subject. We then spent three days writing our resolution for the topic. The Chairs then selected the four best resolutions that we would then vote on at our conference.
1. What has been most challenging about this project? The most challenging part of this project for me was doing all the research on your countries perspective. This was hard for me because you often couldn't find the information that you needed or were looking for. Also when researching you had to find sources that actually represented your countries views. 2. What challenges have you overcome? One challenge that I have overcome was when the WiFi kept going out while I was trying to do research I ended upstarting to write my papers without all of the information. 3. What are you most proud of at this point? Even though it didn't make it onto the docket, I'm very proud of my resolution. I really feel that I put a lot of thought and effort into it. Analyze and explain what the following quote means to you: "Complacency is where genius goes to die" - Matt Hughes To me this quote is talking about, when you get cocky about how well you did at something then you don't seem as smart as when you are modest about the work that you did.
